Looking for a some fresh dubstep? Yup. Well you’ve come to the right place! Play Me Records, a dub/electro/dnb label based in Beverly Hills, has a few releases out that have been sneaking up beatport’s dubstep charts, so naturally, I figured I should try to bring some of that dubby love and make it easy for you guys to download.

Yup by FS has managed to take hint of ‘Doctor P’ and then coat it in a healthy helping of originality. Plenty of wobble and grime for all you noise porn fans, while still maintaing a sense of clarity that helps it stand our from the rest.

Wobble Wednesday Vol. 2: Chrispy Dubstep

Every now and then I hear a song, or in this case a set of songs, that really begin to blur the lines between the ‘underground’ and mainstream american culture. When I listening to these tracks, nine times out of ten, I am terribly disappointed and can’t help but agree with popular phrases like ‘sell out’ and ‘weak.’ After nearly giving up on the possibility of pop song turned noise-porn, I could barely contain myself when I stumbled upon this weeks featured artist.

I give you… Chrispy!

Straight outta the UK and full of filth, Chrispy is serious about his remixes. He’s remixed some of the ‘poppier’ music out there and still manages to take us on a dark journey with some ‘chrispy’ wobbles and deliciously melodic synth lines. If your looking for a healthy dose of ‘happy party music’ meets ‘brain frying wobbles’ then you will not be disappointed.

Techno Tuesday - Alex Kenji

Alex Kenji has been one of my favorite house artists for a long time and, though his latest releases had begun to feel a little stale the last couple months, he’s right back on track with his latest release on Spinnin Records. The prolific Italian uses a very simple, very obvious, and very effective vocal sample that makes the track an instant party starter and a great opening track. His signature metronome-like hats and claps help keep the groove going on this definite hit. DL here.

‘8 Days in Kazantip’ is Kenji’s Hotfingers label’s first foray into the exploding Balkan sound that’s been filling the airwaves lately. Heavy ethnic strings, flutes, and vocals make this one a spicy track that would go down nicely right before some Riva Starr drunkeness. DL here.

Major Lazer at UCSB 2010 Opening Weekend

So it turns out Major Lazer’s free performance at UCSB’s Storke Plaza turned out to be a pretty good alternative for those of you that couldn’t make the drive down for Nocturnal 2010. I know what you’re thinking… There is no way I should be comparing the two of these to one another, but you know what, I think experiencing the ‘dagger’ for the first time with Pon de Floor ripping my face off was a pretty good way to spend the night! And if you don’t believe me, I have video proof as well:

All in all it was an absolutely epic night of raging, and for those of you that attended we’ve assembled a few of the Major Lazer ‘must have’ tracks, as well as some of the other tunes(dubstep) that caught my ear:

Nocturnal Festival 2010 Recap

We all knew it would be epic but it’s still hard to fathom how the guys over at Insomniac Events manage to outdo themselves one show after another. Despite hitting a bit of a speed bump after a young girl died at their legendary Electric Daisy Carnival, and the issues associated with changing Audiotistic to an 18+ event, this was different… Nocturnal went off without a hitch.

So, the big question of the day… Who gave the best performance? Of course, the answer to this question depends on what kind of music you like, but whether you like to get dubby, or prefer to rage your face off to some electro or trance, it seems that Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia takes the cake.

I couldn’t get a download for this one, but I highly recommend you throw this mix on the next time your looking for a great compilation of the stadium bangers that Swedish House Mafia is so well known for:

Nocturnal Festival 2010 Preview

The summer festival season is wrapping up this Saturday but it’s not going out with a whimper, it’s going out with a brain-searing, gut-busting, mother-fucking bang and I’m here to give you the best advice you won’t remember for your trip to the NOS Events Center in San Bernadino this saturday. Insomniac is bringing the 2010 Nocturnal Festival around for its 16th year, and with it come six massive stages to be played on by 50+ artists, complete with dozens of art installations and carnival rides to boot.

This year’s edition sports a lineup covering almost all of the bases for electronic music fans. Ferry Corsten and ATB head up the Labyrinth, Steve Angello and Dada Life will be blasting some big-room madness, and for the dub-steppers Skream & Benga will be performing a two hour back-to-back set that is not to be missed. For your own well-being, we’ve got recommendations from three EasyLove artists on who they would be seeing, with a grip of individual downloads from all mentioned artists or conveniently zipped into one folder for your clicking-ease!

Brain.wavs Picks: “If you saw Pretty Lights at EDC in 2009 you got a real special treat. I remember raging face front row with all my friends, no one was really even there. He ripped our faces off that night, I’ll never forget that performance and was instantly transformed into a life long Pretty Lights fan. That’s been a while though and he has most certainly evolved. His unbelievable new drummer makes it a truly “live” performance and I can assure you this will be the highlight of this years Nocturnal!!! I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing Plastician live but I have had the pleasure of hearing his music. To be clear I’m not really a true dubstep fan, I love some of it and I also really dislike some of it. Plastician is on point though and his productions are, to put it simply… Epic! This isn’t that squashed to shit noise porn dubstep, it’s beautiful dubstep with just the right touch of filth. Even if you’re not familiar with his work, just go see him, you’ll be off to another “place” and this “place” will blow your mind.”

Ginger Kid & AZN GLO Picks: “Bingo Players started out in small bingo halls in Holland, but this house duo has grown huge, topping the Beatport charts multiple times since their remake of Devotion - these guys create solid originals and huge remixes. Felguk is a Brazilian duo known for their wicked, hard-hitting electro sound. They’ve done collabs with such artists as Tim Healey, Neelix, Spencer and Hill, and Sporty-O and destroyed the Avalon just a few weeks ago. Everyone always argues about who is the number one trance DJ. There is either Team-Tiesto or Team-Armin. Nobody argues about who is number three - Markus Schulz. The Man, The Legend, the German Trance God who ripped my face off several times, even after reconstructive surgery, most recently on July 4th at Ruby Skye in SF. Beast.”

Yooj’s Picks: “I know these picks may seem a little obvious but, when I go to a festival, I go to see festival headliners who bring the noise made for the stadiums. Don’t get me wrong I love me some electro or dubstep on a fat system but those are made with the clubs in mind first. Steve Angello and Tocadisco are bona fide stadium-rockers as many of you who went to EDC can attest (in Angello’s case) - they’re purveyors of the euphoric two minute buildups we all love followed by those arena-shaking drops. If you don’t want to stick to just the main stage though, do your ears a favor and go see Skream and Benga going back-to-back for at least the hour before Angello’s set time at 11 - I usually think of dubstep as just banging, drunkard music but Skream turns it into an epic experience.”

Tom Flynn has been all over my radar recently and his remix of Mowgli’s Caraibi on Deadfish is easily one of my favorite house tracks of the summer. The young Brit knows how to do some serious tribal drum work and, though crowd samples can be the ultimate cheese, he does it to perfection on this one. Some serious peak time tech house here.

Robotic Pirate Monkey's Debut EP! Out NOW!

If you missed our first post on Robotic Pirate Monkey consider yourself lucky to have your RPM cherry popped with this release which includes 4 previously unreleased original tracks. For those unfamiliar with RPM here’s a little blurb on them before I give you a run down of all the madness that’s about to to be piped through your ears into your soul. Robotic Pirate Monkey is Matt Berryhill, Andrew Hathaway, & Matt Flesher. They’re straight out of Boulder, CO and all 3 of these guys are production & Ableton savages in their own right however, their powers combined is something to gawk in awe at. I mastered this album so I’m sure some of you might think this post is a bit biased, something like… “Of course he’s going to pump it up, the success of it benefits him as well” This is true but, I could care less about that. I don’t do a post on every song I master to plug it for my benefit. I do posts on music that I think is beyond dope, the music that gives you those goosebumps and tingly feelings, the tracks that make you hit repeat instantly. That’s every track on Disturbing Pleasant Streets and that’s no joke. The goosebumps, yeah, I honestly hadn’t got those in a long time, they came rushing back full force while previewing Jolene in my car a few days ago driving down pch. (listen very closely @ 3:35, you’ll hear what I heard) Instantly I thought… They killed it, I killed it, it’s ready, print it, this is going to blow the fuck up. I hope it does, nothing would please me more than to see these guys become the next Pretty Lights or Savoy. There is literally a song on here for everyone from pop music fans to filthy distortion craving bassline connoisseurs. I’d say the overall theme is of a glitchy nature with themes and inspiration from electro, dubstep, breaks, progressive, hip-hop, folk, rock, jazz, trance… uhhhh yeah there’s for sure more but it starts to get confusing. The songs are a big enough mind fucks as it is and I mean that in the best way possible. Enjoy!

One of our resident DJ/Producers has undergone a little name change… The artist formally know as TAR4BLE has spent some time hidden away in the dark and deep shadows of his bat cave with copious volcano bags, a side kick named Chewy (not the dwarf Chelsea Handler exploits) and his lady friend known as Nasty P!«<haha. He’s emerged from his vision quest with a new name and new style (his productions anyways) I feel like this mix is still quite representative of what we know & love. I’ll keep it short and sweet and let his mixing do the talking but I’ll close by saying this is an adventure for the end of summer and certainly not to be missed, I’ve given it 3 listens already, once it hits the CD player in the car who knows. Mixing skills in this one are on point and even insane at sometimes. Boat parties… I’ve been on one before, it was dope sauce. If you haven’t heard of Elite Force you wouldn’t know he’s been deep in the game since the 90’s and you certainly wouldn’t be aware of the style this experience has bred. Not to worry though, you’ll be caught up with the last 20 years of Elite Force after you listen to this absolutely filthy mix he released not too long ago. Elite Force’s Strongram Sessions have been wildly popular since he first created them back in 2001. However, he had stepped back from them a bit to work on his music blog and his other musical projects; Zodiac Cartel & Dustbowl. This is the first Strongarm Session Mix he’s released in a while and the very first one of 2010. You don’t want to miss this one, trust me. It’s a live set recorded from his performance at The Elite Force Boat Party on board the Mercury Thames Cruiser in London. I’d have to say the set is pretty much all encompassing genre wise which works well for me and my ADD brain which gets bored with things rather quickly. Imagine Breaks, Tech House, Electro, Dubstep, Techno, House & Funk all rolled into one fatty spliff that you’re saving to spark till you’re somewhere that’s truly magical. Stop imaging and hit play, you’ll soon understand this day dream I’m describing.

What’s grindin’ EasyLovers…. I hope you are ready for a weekend of insanity,

Up today we have a new track from Belgian electro duo Sound of Stereo. If you haven’t heard these guys then I suggest you buckle up because you might get blown off your seat. But hey, don’t take my word for it, these Dimmak DJ/producers have received support from the likes of The Bloody Beetroots, Congorock and even Indie/Techno Demi-god Tiga.

This New track goes by the name of Helium, and it is a buzzy “wow-I-guess-I’m-less-sober-than-previously-anticipated” ~~track~~ BANGER that will be at the peak of my sets for quite some time….. here’s a video of Tiga dropping it at Hard Summer.

The release is set to be Sept 27 on Lektroluv Records with remixes from the likes of Jan Driver, and unsung techno hero Paul Chambers.

Techno Tuesday: Carlo Lio

Lately Techno Tuesday has not been as “techno” as I’d originally envisioned, so for this post I’m bringing it back to pure, solid, big-room techno - the kind championed by Dubfire and Carl Cox, the kind that might not always please the average listener’s ears, but also the kind that can set off the main stage like nothing else out there. I chose Carlo Lio as the subject of this post because he embodies everything I love about techno, interweaving the smoothest grooves with the hardest sounds. Completely unknown just a few years ago, Lio’s distinct industrial sound brought him up the techno-ladder so fast that you’ll have to compete with Paul Ritch, Dubfire, and Carl Cox among many others just to sign one of his tracks.
